Scarecrow Festival 2015 Pairs Beach Fishing Competition - Pevensey Bay

Our beaches were alive with the sight of Scarecrow Anglers!!!

The Pevensey Villages 2015 Scarecrow Festival Beach Fishing Competition took place on Saturday 18th July 2015 in Pevensey Bay. For more information about the Scarecrow Festival see http://pevenseyvillages.org/

10 points were awarded to each angler who arrived for the comp dressed as a scarecrow, and the result was very amusing.

What a great turn out for this Pairs (one junior, one senior) Catch and Release Comp - lots of checked shirts, patched dungarees, straw hats, the odd parsnip nose, a great gathering of (some, very) young, and (quite) old Scarecrow Anglers - even Worzel was there!

It was a beautiful sunny, albeit breezy, day for this beach comp, and some of the best fish were caught by the juniors,as pictured below. Results

Anglers Den Specimen Hunt - Final Results - June 2015

The Anglers Den annual week long Specimen Hunt took place from 9am on Sunday 31st May, until 1pm on Sunday 7th June. Fishing linits in this comp stretch from the base of Beachy Head lighthouse through to the Cooden Beach Hotel, leaving plenty of scope for (Optional!) 24 Hour Fishing!!

A mid-week look at the results to date saw Pete Fountain in the lead with the biggest bass to date of 3lb 6½oz.

However, the Specimen Hunt then concluded on Sunday 7th June with a spectacular day - see Final Results Board below!

Pictured above is Paul Parsons who caught this fabulous 8lb 1½oz Smoothound and Grant Bryant with a nice 15oz sole, both winning these catagories.

Pictured below is Steve Dell with is winning bass of 4lb 3oz which knocked Pete Fountain's bass off the results board, in the last weigh-in of the comp. Steve also managed to land the biggest eel of the week in the same comp with a fish of 1lb 5oz, knocking off Harry Spencers catch earlier in the week.

Steve was only able to fish for 4 hrs during the whole week, and with these two specimens, he also managed to win the PBAC Sunday Comp as well, proving the saying that it's not about quantity but quality. Well done Steve!

The  2015 Anglers Den Open Beach Fishing Competition was held on Sunday 8th March in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex, UK.


The 2015 Open Competition marks a 25th anniversary year for Anglers Den!!




The competition was fished from the central beaches of Pevensey Bay on a beautiful sunny day. There were plenty of fish caught, the main species being plaice.



With a maximum of 75 entries, the match was fully booked over a week before the competition.

Big Fish Big Bash Xmas Comp - Sun 14th Dec - Results!!

24 anglers turned out to fish the Big Fish Big Bash Xmas Comp!! This was held in Pevensey Bay, near to Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK.
Anglers had to target a big flat fish and a big round fish, only being allowed to weigh in one of each.
There was also a pool for the biggest combined weight of flat and round together. Results were as follows:

On Sunday 2nd March Anglers Den Open Beach Competition was held in Pevensey Bay. This years comp proved to be very popular, filling up (max 80 anglers) the week before the comp.

Unfortunately the weather (yet again!) decided to play a major role with the day starting bright and breezy but by the end of the comp the wind had increased to almost a gale with rain as well.

By the end of the comp most anglers were relieved to get off the beach and into the warmth of the Pevensey Bay Aqua Club, where the prize-giving was done.

 The biggest fish of the day was a Cod weighing 6lb 3ozs caught by Dave Boyling, he had a total match winning weight of 7lb, taking the 1st prize of £300. The main species caught were Rockling, Pout, Dabs, Flounder with the odd Eel and Dogfish.
