Fish 4 Kidz 2016, Eastbourne Children's Angling Event - the planning starts here :)

The organising Committee of Fish 4 Kidz had a get together recently to highlight that this FREE children's beach angling event will be returning for it's FOURTH year in 2016.

This popular annual children's fishing competition was founded by Steve Frost of Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club, and involves close collaboration between local angling clubs, fishing tackle shops, and the RNLI. As an event close to his heart, Stephen Lloyd continues to offer his support as Patron.

Each Fish 4 Kidz event has boasted attendance by up to 80 budding sea anglers (between the ages of 5 and 16) who have fished off Eastbourne beaches for the day, under guidance from experienced anglers volunteering their time as Stewards. These events have proved a huge success with children and help to safeguard the future of our sport.

Keep an eye out for further news, as plans for Fish 4 Kidz 2016 begin to unfold.

The rods and reels used in the event were donated by Rovex Masterline, and much of the angling equipment given out as prizes was donated by Pure Fishing tackle company. Terminal tackle given out in goody bags, was kindly supplied by Tronix Pro .Crisps and drinks for all the children were supplied by our own Eastbourne Bookers.
Fishing rigs supplied to all the children were made and donated by a local fishing rig maker.

This year the RNLI ,as well as supplying loads of goodies for the goody bags, also donated mugs and hats so that all the children that caught fish went home with a prize.
In addition many local bait diggers, including a number of the stewards,  got up early to dig bait which was donated free to support the event.

This year fishing time was adjusted to try to ensure more children caught fish! The inclusion of face painting, balloon modelling and a barbeque back at the Angling Club also ensured that, after the competition, children and their families waiting for the results were successfully kept happy, fed and entertained!

Fish 4 Kidz 2014 - Children's Beach Fishing Competition - Sun 27th April 2014

The third Fish 4 Kidz Beach Fishing Competition for children aged 5 – 16 was held on Eastbourne beaches on Sunday 27th April 2014.  The free event is a unique opportunity for children, with their families, to experience beach fishing under the tuition of a local angler who had given up their day to act as Steward for the event. Founded in 2012 by Steve Frost of Eastbourne Nomads Fishing Club, Fish 4 Kidz attracts widespread support from all of the local fishing tackle shops and angling clubs, and from tackle and bait suppliers.

The day began with the RNLI, with their new Eastbourne Lifeboat, giving a demonstration in front of Eastbourne Angling Club, where the booking-in for the competition took place.

Stewards then accompanied the young anglers with their families to their allocated beaches and assisted with setting up tackle, baiting up and with assisted casting.

For many of the participants, some as young as 5years old, this was their first experience of angling.

The rods and reels use by anglers were donated by Rovex Masterline, much of the angling equipment given out as prizes was donated by Pure Fishing, terminal tackle given out in ‘goody bags’ to each child was donated by Tronix, along with food and drink donated by Bookers.

A local fishing rig supplier made and donated all the rigs used, and many local bait diggers got up early to dig bait which was donated free to support the event.

A Sky TV ‘Tight Lines’ film crew filmed the event, so the children involved, as well as having a great day out, will look forward to the possibility of appearing on TV!

Conditions were windy on the day and a good mix of fish were caught in this catch and release competition, including Plaice, Flounders, Whiting, Bullheads, Eels, Pout, Rockling, Weavers, Dabs, and Bass. There were three age categories in this event, with the youngest group (age 5 – 9 years) being the largest (44 children!), which bodes well for the future of our sport.
