Fish4Kidz 2015 - Children's Beach Fishing Competition - Sun 26th April 2015

The fourth annual Fish4Kidz Children's Beach Fishing Competition was held on Sunday 26th April and was a FANTASTIC SUCCESS!!

Fish4Kidz is an annual FREE Children's Beach Fishing Competition for youngsters aged between 5 - 16yrs which was established in 2012. This unique event was founded by Steve Frost of the Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club, and for the past 4 years the organisation of annual Fish4Kidz events has involved close collaboration between local angling clubs, fishing tackle shops and the RNLI, with support from local MP Stephen Lloyd.

A huge amount of organisaton needs to be done before the children start arriving at 10.30 am.
The event saw 72 children fishing from Eastbourne beaches in drizzly, damp conditions, and nearly 50 of them catching fish!

This was a Catch and Release Competition fished from 12 midday til 2.30pm, with entrants being grouped by age (5-9yrs, 10-12yrs, and 13-16yrs),

The rods and reels used in the event were donated by Rovex Masterline, and much of the angling equipment given out as prizes was donated by Pure Fishing tackle company. Terminal tackle given out in goody bags, was kindly supplied by Tronix Pro .Crisps and drinks for all the children were supplied by our own Eastbourne Bookers.
Fishing rigs supplied to all the children were made and donated by a local fishing rig maker.

This year the RNLI ,as well as supplying loads of goodies for the goody bags, also donated mugs and hats so that all the children that caught fish went home with a prize.
In addition many local bait diggers, including a number of the stewards,  got up early to dig bait which was donated free to support the event.

This year fishing time was adjusted to try to ensure more children caught fish! The inclusion of face painting, balloon modelling and a barbeque back at the Angling Club also ensured that, after the competition, children and their families waiting for the results were successfully kept happy, fed and entertained!

A huge THANK YOU is owed to the stewards who give up their day to offer Fish4Kidz entrants the opportunity to experience the joys of beach fishing, and so help to safeguard the future of our sport.

The organising committee for Fish4Kidz is already planning ahead for Fish4Kidz 2016!
