Early Codling off the beach at Pevensey Bay and Normans Bay - Sept 2015

Early codling are starting to show along the Pevensey Bay/Normans Bay stretch of coast over the weekend of 5th/6th Sept 2015.

Pictured below is Steve Bod with a codling caught off Normans Bay, just after high tide on a single lug with Pulley Rig.

Also pictured is Aaron Fincham with a 3lb 2oz codling caught on lugworm during the day off Pevensey Bay.

Keep your catch news coming!

See the Anglers Den Sussex website for details of shore fishing marks, along the Sussex Coast, from below Eastbourne's Beachy Head, past Langney Point through Pevensey Bay to Cooden, near Bexhill-On-Sea.   Click here for Fishing Mark Information

The beach along this stretch varies dramatically from the shingle beaches towards the east at Cooden, with shallow flats exposed at low water, contrasting with the cliffs at Beachy Head and the rock Marks towards the west.

Fishing Mark information advises what seasonal fish species to target, and of fishing tactics, tackle and bait.

Newbie boat anglers fishing for dinner - Sovereign Harbour - Sept 2015

Kevin Watts sent us this report and photo after his first experience boat fishing out of Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour:

Having looked on the internet for local fishing tackle shops I decided Anglers Den Sussex was the place to go, what a great decision!
My partner and I visited the store on the morning of Saturday 5 September (due to an invite to go boat fishing the next day) We were met with a warm welcome and were guided through what was appropriate tackle, rod and reel and even how to use it and where.
Having returned home rather excited with my new toys I set to work making up the traces (as instructed – to the best of my limited knowledge), now even more excited in wanting to try them out.

Sunday came and we set off from Eastbourne marina to drift fish near the tower and were rewarded with:

Several mackerel – small ones returned but large ones made a good evening meal after being baked for 25 minutes in foil
A “ Wrasse” – did not know what it was at the time but google helped identify it, then Facebook contact identified it as a “Ballan Wrasse” (see attached photo) and despite what some people say made good eating as well, filleted and pan fried
Bream – filleted and pan fried
2 dog fish (returned them not realising they are also called huss – otherwise they would have found their way to the table that evening as well)
2 powting – would suggest good for fish pie only, so will return if caught again.

So thanks again, really appreciate your patience in talking us through the basics and we will certainly be back to replace items still clinging on to rocks and to expand my basic kit.
All the best.
