Over 50s Beach Fishing Competition - Pevensey Bay - Thurs 8th January 2015

18 hardy souls turned up to fish the first Over 50s Beach Fishing Competition of 2015 held in Pevensey Bay on Thurs 8th January, in inclement weather conditions.

The fishing was better than expected with some good fish being caught. The biggest round fish was a Codling for Ian Hopper weighing 2lb ¼oz   , and the biggest flat fish went to Sam Sampson with a Flounder of 1lb ¾oz. Other species caught included some Dogfish, some nice Dabs, Whiting and Ling.

Points are awarded as follows, with 15 points for the winner, decreasing down to 1 point.

Anderida Fishing Club held their first beach fishing competition of 2015 on Monday 5th January in Pevensey Bay, with 22 anglers fishing. The main species caught were Whiting, Ling and Dab. Results:

Anderida Beach Fishing Club Competitions for 2015

The Anderida Beach Fishing Club is organised by an elected committee and co-ordinated from Anglers Den. 

Club Competitions are held approximately fortnightly in Pevensey Bay, on a weekday, in the evening (7pm tp 10pm). Club membership costs £10 per year for seniors, £1 for juniors. 

It's possible to fish competitions as a non-member, paying an extra £1. There are additional Club events throughout the year, eg. Annual Open Competition. 

If competitions are not for you, there are many cups and shields awarded to club members for species of fish caught throughout the year. For details of joining, please call into Anglers den and complete a membership form.

Angling Trust Sussex Marine Region All Sussex Shore Championships - Final Pevensey Bay - 4th January 2015

The Angling Trust Sussex Marine 2014 All Sussex Shore Championship Final was held on Sunday 4th January at Pevensey Bay.

The match was pegged and run on a catch and release, weight to measure, format.

The winner (and undisputed best angler in All Sussex?!) was Kevin Morgan of the Anglers Den, who recorded 40 fish for 496 points. Second place went to Ralph Crosby from Hastings who had a total of 451 points. Third place went to Trevor Rooney with 450 points, and fourth place went to Mick Snelling with 434 points. Also pictured below is Dave Knight who recorded the biggest fish - a Bass worth 25 points.

Cod and Thornback Ray on 'Bayside'/Bay Charters - Sovereign Harbour - 4th Jan 2015

Skipper Dave Burton sent us this picture of a 17lb Cod caught on his charter boat 'Bayside' out of Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour. It was caught on a flowing trace with lugworm/squid cocktail. Approx 20 codling were also caught on this trip.

 Pictured also is an 8lb Thornback Ray caught on this trip.

To register a species for a club record the fish must be weighed on the clubs ratified scales which are held at the ANGLERS DEN in Pevensey Bay.The club fishing limits, for registering club records, extend from Cooden Beach Hotel to the base of Beachy Head lighthouse. Fishing from Eastbourne Pier and Sovereign Harbour arms is not permitted.
